“Conduit” by Lorn
I looked back through my tune posts and realized I haven’t covered Lorn, which surprises me. I have been listening to his music for a couple of years now and I’m enjoying every single release. When I first discovered Lorn’s experimental electronic music, I realized I hadn’t heard anything like him. His music is darker, scratchier, and more kinetic than any other stuff I’ve listened to in the genre.

“Wisdom’s Tragedy” by Disasterpeace
This is another great track from the OST for Hyper Light Drifter, an enigmatic post-apocalypse game about ruined new-beasts, dead titans, and a cruel enemy–all with a heavy science-fantasy overtone and retro gameplay.
Disasterpeace’s arrangement captures the mysterious, heavy brilliance of the beautifully crafted world of Hyper Light Drifter. It also clicks with the Vaarn setting awfully well. If I had to choose a single album and put it on repeat for Vaarn gaming music, this would be it.

Tune five is a small gem I discovered while searching around for bare-bones, stripped-down electronic music in the old style of Korgs, Moogs, and Prophets. No percussion. No verse-chorus structure. No lyrics. Just ascendant ambience. And I found something. Rather, someone: Hélène Vogelsinger.

“Talyat” by Tinariwen
I discovered this band about a year ago. The video I’m going to share with you came to me via the ineffable YouTube algorithm. Upon seeing the thumbnail of these guys performing all decked out in their Saharan clothing, I immediately clicked on it. The algorithm knew me too well. I was too curious. The first song I heard that day is still my favourite. It is titled “Talyat,” which means girl. This video continues for three more songs. Give them a listen too. Sastanàqqàm is another favourite of mine.

“Horse Steppin'” by Sun Araw
This tune makes me smile. In fact, I can’t listen to Sun Araw’s stuff without cracking. His music moves from eclectic throes of multi-patterned instruments in which there is no concept of up, to semi-melodic psychadelic tracks where there is a solid presence of the Mojave Desert, which is technically right outside his door.
